Danny Briere's Overtime Goal Helps Flyers Defeat Canes 4-3

Flyers players celebrating the overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes
The Philadelphia Flyers haven't been the team that they were last season yet this year. They started out the season 0-3, but since then they have been up and down. They currently sit at 5-6-1, and have won three of their last four contests. Philadelphia lost in a shootout Thursday to the Florida Panthers, but they were able to get a win in overtime today on a Danny Briere goal in overtime, which was his second goal on the season. Jakub Voracek, Brayden Schenn, and Matt Read also scored for the Flyers in the victory. Matt Read's goal was his team leading fifth on the season. Jiri Tlusty, Jeff Skinner, and Alexander Semin all had goals in the loss for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov made 30 saves during the game, and he has played very well this season, although his 5-5-1 record doesn't really reflect it. Bryzgalov has made key saves in key situations, and kept his team in a lot of the games that they have played so far. The Flyers season is finally looking up after a slow start. The Flyers will look to continue their winning ways on a six-game road trip. The trip includes stops in Toronto, Winnipeg, New Jersey, Montreal, New York (Islanders), and they will wrap-up the trip with a divisional match-up against the in-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins. With the win today, the Flyers moved into third place in the Atlantic Division, and The Carolina Hurricanes remain in second place in the Southeast Division.
